The Benedetič family estate is located on the edge of Goriška Brda, in the village of Vipolže, right next to Italy’s Collio wine region, where the rolling hills of Brda begin to level out. The family’s knowledge of viticulture and winemaking has been passed down through generations since 1923, when Valentin Keber and his son-in-law, Andrej Benedetič, purchased two hectares of vineyard known as Brgolišče from Count Teuffenbach.
The vineyard takes its name from the large stones, known locally as balote in the Brda dialect, that once lay scattered among the vines. Over the generations, the family carefully managed and gradually expanded the estate. Today, the vineyards cover ten hectares spread across 12 different sites. Although this makes vineyard management more challenging, it also brings remarkable diversity to the wines, as each location has its own unique characteristics and advantages.
Among the white varieties, particular attention is given to Rebula and Sauvignonasse, formerly known as Tocai Friulano. The range also includes internationally renowned varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. The red varieties grown on the estate are Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Beyond wine, the estate also offers delicious cherries and olive oil. One of the family’s proudest achievements is its modern winery, a testament to its commitment to progress while remaining true to tradition. During a visit, guests are invited to explore the new wine cellar and discover the dedication and passion that go into crafting every bottle.
In the modern tasting room, visitors can relax and enjoy a guided wine tasting while taking in the idyllic rolling hills of Goriška Brda.

These are located on 12 different locations, a fact that makes cultivation slightly more difficult on the one side, however, the particularities of each micro location on the other side remarkably impart our wines with a wide range of diversity and character.
When it comes to the whites, special attention is given to the local varieties Rebula (Ribolla gialla) and Sauvignonasse (formerly Tocai friulano, Tai), while the international varieties Chardonnay, Pinot gris also find their place among our product range. As to the reds, we take pride in Merlot and Cabernet sauvignon.
With the rendering of nummulites on the wine label, the Benedetič family winery announces that their vines grow on the soils, which were formed at least 60 million years ago.
At that time, due to the formation processes of the Alps and the Dinarides, the sea left behind the protozoans, fossil, which can still be seen in their vineyards ‘the nummulites’ are living witnesses of those ancient times.
The Benedetič family call these nummulits as “novčiči” (“coins”), because of their shape and size. Because of their unique shape and elegance and the story they are telling, they have also become the symbol of our winery and wines. Just the spirals are intertwined on the nummutes, so the characters our wines are intertwined and do not leave you indifferent.
